Eros and Psyche
(Antonio Canova Possago, Treviso 1757 - Venezia 1822)
The original statue is Carrara white marble and its dimensions are 155 x 168 cm. It represents Eros kissing Psyche. The subject comes from the Apuleio legend,
according to which Psyche was so beautiful that Venus became envious and sent Eros to make her fall in love with an ugly man. But Eros fell in love with her at
first sight, and after many vicissitudes he gained permission for Psyche to join him in Olympus.
